What is the difference between an AMS and a CRM?+
A CRM tracks interactions with contacts. An AMS does that and goes further — handling dues billing, event registration, member portals, elections, financial reporting, and the association-specific workflows a generic CRM wasn’t designed for. The best AMS functions as a purpose-built CRM for associations.
How long does it take to implement an AMS?+
AMO typically goes live within 2–4 weeks. This includes a kickoff call, data migration from your current system, platform configuration matched to your membership structure, and four live training sessions for your entire team. Compare this to competitors that take 3–6 months with self-directed implementation.
Do we need a technical person to run AMO?+
No. AMO is designed for association staff — not IT teams. The platform is configured for you during onboarding, and the four training sessions teach your admin team how to manage members, process dues, run events, and use the reporting tools without any technical background required.
Can AMO replace our current website?+
AMO integrates with your existing WordPress website through a native first-party plugin — you don’t need to replace your site. If you do want a new website alongside AMO, AMO’s parent company ArcStone is a full-service WordPress development agency that can build and integrate both simultaneously.
What happens to our existing member data?+
Data migration is included in AMO’s $1,995 onboarding fee. Your dedicated onboarding specialist handles the import of your existing member database, dues history, and event records. You’re not expected to figure out data migration yourself.
How does AMO pricing scale as our membership grows?+
AMO’s pricing is contact-based. Your bill only increases when your contact list grows past a tier threshold — not when your revenue increases, not when you run a successful event, not arbitrarily mid-contract. All pricing tiers are published publicly and scale predictably from $95/month to $685/month for up to 25,000 contacts.
Does every staff member get access to support, or just administrators?+
Every staff member at your association can contact AMO support directly. Unlike some competitors that restrict support to 1–2 designated “super admins,” AMO’s support is available to your entire team via email and 30-minute check-in calls — indefinitely, at no extra charge.
Is there a long-term contract or cancellation penalty?+
AMO does not impose punitive cancellation penalties. Monthly plans can be cancelled with standard notice. Annual plans receive one month free. There is no “80% of remaining contract” clause — a condition that some competitors impose even after raising their prices mid-contract.
What types of payment processing does AMO support?+
AMO supports credit card payments and ACH bank transfers for dues, events, donations, and store purchases. Payment processing integrations handle collection, failed payment retries, and reconciliation automatically. Stripe is the primary processing partner for most AMO implementations.
Can AMO handle both individual and corporate/organization membership types?+
Yes. AMO supports multiple membership types with individual dues rates, renewal dates, and benefit access levels. You can configure individual memberships, corporate memberships, tiered memberships, honorary memberships, and any other structure your association uses — each with its own dues schedule and member portal access.
How does AMO compare to Wild Apricot for a growing association?+
Wild Apricot’s entry price is lower, but its true cost rises sharply once you need features that are gated behind higher tiers. AMO includes all 17 modules at every price point. Wild Apricot’s WordPress integration relies on third-party plugins; AMO’s is first-party. For associations actively growing, AMO’s all-inclusive model is typically more cost-effective by year two.
What makes AMO different from other AMS platforms?+
Four things: (1) All 17 modules included at every price point — no upgrade walls. (2) First-party native WordPress plugin built and maintained by AMO. (3) Real human support for every staff member, under 2 hours, not just designated admins. (4) Certified B Corp — we’re accountable to our customers and community, not investor return targets. We’ve been serving associations for 24 years while competitors have launched, been acquired, or failed.
